Three sections to this review: Kit contents, Installation, Usage.*** Kit Contents:You get a TON of extra wire and it makes the initial opening of the box overwhelming. Chill out, you only need to connect four wires to the OBDII port, three wires to the body control module, and one wire to the ECU. A lot of installs I saw wrapped up the extra wire and stuff it with the module into the dashboard – I will say to gently wrap the unnecessary wires and set them aside… Once the module is installed and working in your car cut the extra wire off and set it aside for another project. No sense stuffing a bunch of extra useless wire under your dash.Everything you need is included with the kit, the instructions were completely correct for my 2012 Prius, and there is a tech support phone number/email with long hours.*** Installation:One dashboard panel and barely three interior panels are removed – Phillips head screwdriver and a firm grip is all you need. Search the internet for “MPC prius install youtube” without quotes and you’ll find the 11:21 long video that tells you everything you need to hook up, with wire colors, and where to go. If you research these kits from various brands there is a few references to a T-Harness and I can tell you from my experience you will waste an hour or more diagnosing the lack of communication only to realize the cheap OBDII connector from this T-Harness does not seat in the OEM OBDII connector well at all.MY ONLY WARNING: Do not try to use any kind of automatic stripping device on the factory wiring harness and it’s tiny 20+ gauge wires – Scrape them with a sharp blade, and be careful. Strip the kit’s wiring harnesses a bit long, wrap around the naked wire, twist tight, solder and wrap with two layers of good vinyl electrical tape.*** Usage:This installed kit is easy to use and don’t pay attention to the timing instructions. Yes, you can hit lock 3x too fast but you’ll know the car doesn’t start. No, you are not going to accidentally turn on your car from your office a block away. This is utilizing the OE key so range is pretty much a max of 100 feet, line of sight, and even then if you’re really worried MPC sells add on modules to give your car a cellular connection for more info and protection.*** Overall:I’m a fairly adept shadetree mechanic and I’m relatively comfortable with vehicle wiring. This is not as easy as installing a headunit in an older car, but it’s sure close. Be comfortable with splicing wire as you don’t have a lot of extra to work with, and be sure you get electrical tape or some other method for insulating connections you are going to make with this kit. Given the low price of the kit compared to more feature-filled remote start systems, I am confident that an honest mechanic would charge around one hour to install this kit and not feel bad when it’s done.Disclaimer: I was not paid, compensated, or otherwise rewarded before writing this review. I paid full price for my kit, regretfully bought an additional T-Harness that wasted a ton of my time, and would not hesitate to do this again with another car and kit from MPC.

The instructions weren’t the best, but I found a decent YouTube video for install on my 2010 Prius. I blew a 7.5 amp fuse connecting the power wire, so you might want to look into pulling that out before attempting install.

Complicated!! This product is not easy to install. Confusing instructions. Customer service led us astray. Wasted a lot of time attempting to use this product. Would not recommend

I had some issues with install called customer support was able to get some one on the line the support tech was patient and stayed with me as I fixed my wiring issue. It was my wiring I used connector instead of direct connection causing the issue. But got it resolved and now works perfect.

I installed a remote start for a Prius. The price of this MPC was good and the install was tedious, but straight forward. Ideally, it would have been nice to see a Youtube video for the install. Everything works as it should and it is nice that it uses the factory remote…no extra fob on the keychain. Would buy from again.

This product is a great product that has lots of potential if you are savvy with install. It all install according to your aptitude and abilities with your vehicle. It will program according to the instructions, if it does not program try again and again. If it will not program (like in my experience) a return was initiated and a partial refund was given (a partial refund). so this product has lots of potential.

The directions should be rewritten, for the Toyota Prius hybrid DO NOT wire up the red plug. If you do you may experience an issue with the vehicle telling you to check the hybrid system.Other than that the product works as specified.

IMPORTANT: Disconnect the 12 volt battery before you begin the installation, so you will not be in dander of shorting anything out!!I live in Canada, I don’t know if that is why my kit was diferent, I got a diffrent version that was shown on a few sites on the Internet. Whereas the internet description had only 2 plugs to work with my “A” version had 4 plugs. One was on the ignition switch, which had to be removed to get to the plug on the back of it. This facilitated removing about half the dash more than ever shown on the internet because they had the older standard version of starter. They also had 2 fewer wires to connect for some reason. Start/Stop and +12 V, were the two I had that they did not??It is very difficult to get to some of the wires as they are 22 guage and snuggled tightly together on the back of a 30 pin connector. I used a knife and carefully skinned off the plactic coating and then tinned the wire with solder. I stripped about half an inch of insulation off the wire to be connected, wrapped it around the original wire and then soldered it into one solid connection. Then wrapped each connection I made with electrical tape as best as I could, which was very very difficult. I then wrapped the whole wire bundle with tape to prevent any motion as the car was driven. (Note: Copper wire work hardens and after some viberation it can break!) A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!I broke this installation into two days of 6 hours each. First day I spent a lot of time trying to find the installation I needed on the Internet, w/o any luck. So I was on my own with the factory instructions. These instructions do NOT advise you how to dissasemble your car to get this installation installed. I had a hard time figuring out that I needed to take the display area of he dash apart to get to the back of the start /stop switch, but had the rest of the dissasembly done on the first day. On the second day I did figure out how to get to the start/stop switch. (Note : I was not going to cutting into wires until I knew I could get to the start/stop switch.) Now I went ahead and did the as the instructions said. In abot 5 hours I was totally finished and tested it out. All was good, everything worked as it was descibed in the instructions. Note: I’m 83 years old with 60 years of electronics repair and construction, with lots of exsperience in wireing equipment. Good luck with this installation, it is NOT for the faint of heart, but it works!
