    Cautionary Tales

These are thin and flimsy, and not commensurate with the current $40 price tag. They barely fit size-wise (I have the Sprinter van version) and are soooo annoying to install because the magnets, while plentiful, are dotted around the perimeter of the very very lightweight screens (they really are extremely thin) which makes them constantly stick to themselves and fold over themselves every which way — getting them to unfold and remain that way is IMPOSSIBLE. You have to stick each inch of them to a surface immediately or it will stick to another part of itself. This reality also makes it hard to assess placement because you can’t open it up to see the shape and gauge which corner aligns with which part of your window; it collapses immediately. GAH.On to the next frustration. Do you install them in the inside of your window or the outside. Glad you asked! If you install on the inside, the screen will flap around because the bottom of the interior window isn’t metal; it’s lined in rubber / textile. Oops! So the screen is wide open and flaps wide about 4 inches and isn’t much of a screen at that point.Okay so we’ll do the outside, right? No problem! Good thinking, you problem solver! Except if you attach it to the outside, there’s STILL and unfastened edge, and that’s the part of your window frame that separates your square window and the triangular part of your window (which doesn’t open). That part is rubberized on the outside and has no metal to stick the magnets to. The only workaround I found, then, is to attach these to the outside, then bring that side edge (the one that should attach to the bar between the two windows) INSIDE the window, and twist it a bit so that part of the screen and ONLY that part, affixes to the interior of the window frame. It works, but it isn’t impressive. One fix would be to give these screens more weight and make them more substantial, or maybe to add extra length to the bottom to close the gap, or to bring the excess material to the exterior of the vehicle. I don’t know, but they just aren’t great. They’ll work in an absolute pinch but have a lot of flaws.
