Electronic tachometers work by counting pulses generated by the ignition system, alternator, tach signal generator or magnetic pickup sender. The tach is hooked up to +12VDC, Ground. By selecting the right tach and setting the switch on the back to the correct position you let the tachometer know how many pulses are sent per each engine revolution.

This is a great addition to my 1976 Cal 29 sailboat with a 12 HP Diesel engine.

Very happy. Pretty idiot proof to install, and a LOT cheaper than the OEM replacement Tachometer

used so that the engine RPM can be monitored from a cage instead of on the engine. engine is mounted on the back of a truck and it is hard to see the attached tach so this remote one is the best way to monitor the RPM.
