OK guys let’s get on the right page; a LEFT-HAND TREAD adapter is needed to test an L5P model years 2017 and up. This listing blathers on about the left-hand top cap and the right-hand threaded lower cap on the L5P Duramax radiator pressure tank/surge tank reservoir bottle. It prominently has its first bullet point – “Services top-tank left-threaded cap on L5P Diesel Engine with two tank caps”. However, it does not specifically state that this item has a right-hand thread. Maybe that’s why a pertinent article on the GM Tech Link site explains: “In some cases, instead of installing the GE-52098-A Cooling System Pressure Test Adapter on the radiator surge tank, an aftermarket pressure test adapter is being used instead that is not designed for evacuating and filling the cooling system. The adapter is a left-hand adapter that threads onto the top of the surge tank.”Since the CTA Tools 7122 Radiator Pressure Adapter has a RIGHT-HAND thread it will therefore not service the left-threaded cap on L5P. That detail is not given in this Amazon listing, but it is included in the product’s listing at the cta.com site. That is quite unfortunate because this is a nicely made item that even has an extended core having two O-rings like the GM GE-52098-A; but it will not work on an L5P. The CTA site says it’s for the right hand thread on the vented tank. But is there a 2017+ L5P diesel engine that has a right-hand thread on the top (surge-tank) neck on the reservoir bottle? It can’t even fit in the lower right hand-threaded neck on the tank due to the shallow neck depth (see photo). They even state that the 7122 is comparable to the GM factory tool GE-52098-A. How is that true when the thread direction is opposite? While I commend CTA for making a nice product, I ask that they make one with a left-hand thread. If you do, it will actually function as a test adapter on the appropriate neck of a 2017+ L5P coolant reservoir/ surge tank that has both a left-hand threaded cap (upper) and a right-hand threaded cap (lower). For now, I will have to return the 7122 and cough up an additional 30 bucks for the GM GE-52098-A (not available on Amazon). 🙁

I don’t know why they say it’s left hand threaded, but it was made with regular threads which will not work on the 17 Era Duramax.

Not left handed thread as described to service them. This is a nicely made part, just won’t work.

As all the other reviews state this part is not left hand thread and by the time I found out my return window has long closed.

Will not work on 2017 duramax trucks does not have left handed thread

Not as described. Listing says it is designed with the left handed thread but it is not. CTA makes a left handed thread with a similar part number but at the end is an “L”.
