I have a BMW 135i N55 with a twin scroll turbo. Starting it up in the cold under 28F isn’t great. The first 60 seconds of startup for a car is the most damaging because the oil has to rush to protect sensitive components higher up away from the oil pan.Mine sounds like it wants to throw the turbo into the house and ping off into the attic. That’s the issue when we’re talking about colder temperatures under 40F degrees for gasoline cars. Especially performance vehicles. Here is what I did:1) I purchased one of these and took some OxiClean total interior wipes to the oil pan. You may need something tougher like brake cleaner if it is bad.2) Applied Permatex 81160 High-Temp Red Silicon to the oil pan.3) Applied more red silicon to the wiring area where it goes into the heating pad to better protect it from moisture.4) Stuck it to the oil pan and added yet more red silicon along its edges.5) Let it sit in the garage over night with a space heater fanning the front of the car in the garage which got to about 50F.Next day I left it outside in the driveway after my morning commute and had to drive that evening with a temp. of 18F outside. Plugged the pad in for 20min. Car started smoothly just as if it was 70F outside. I was amazed and cannot recommend this product for anyone into cars or just desire that solid extra assurance.

Got this to keep my oil pan warm in the winter for a 2016 Subaru Impreza Sport. It was fairly easy to install but did take some time. The pad has an adhesive backing. Had to do some light sanding to oil pan to get the adhesive to stick well. Also, I probably could have gone with a smaller pad for my vehicle but was able to make it work.

Other than the strong odor it gives off the first day or so it’s turned on after attaching it, I have nothing bad to say about this product. I used two of them on my air compressor block because the oil gets too thick in my shop in the winter with the cold temps. Worked as good as I could have hoped and frankly for the price it’s a home run. Would recommend would buy again.

I stuck this pad to the bottom of my oil pan on a 2013 VW CC Sport Plus 2.0T gas engine. Still stuck there a couple months later, even with snow and super cold conditions (-30 F).

Not so sure about that automatic built in thermostat it mentions in the description. My thermal camera showed this getting to over 300°F. I’ll use it, but I wouldn’t trust leaving it on for more than an hour or so. Set a timer and go check on it.I did also run it for an hour and checked the entire chord with my thermal camera, suspecting it would be overheating, but stayed surprisingly cool.I wiped down the oil pan with alcohol real well and the adhesive on this actually stuck really well. Guessing some of the others didn’t get the surface clean enough.

Bought two of these to heat the motor on my $80,000.00 guide boat through the winter . Thank god I hung around after install and plugging them in. Within 30 seconds they were smoking and melting , I burnt my hands ripping them off my boat before damage could be done . Using a thermometer , I registered 325F on the elements while plugged in.I’m so very fortunate my boat and livelihood wasn’t burnt to a crisp along with my house and family in it ….
