What conditions require replacement of the A/C compressor clutch assembly
– Solenoid
- The solenoid coil is short-circuited or disconnected resulting in failure to supply power.
– Pulley
- Rattling: A rattling noise from the air conditioning compressor may be due to a bad and damaged bearing in the pulley.
- Difficulty in turning: The belt and pulley do not run properly.
- Stuck: The pulley is jumping and stuck.
– Suction Pad
- Insufficient electromagnetic force or a slightly larger suction cup gap may cause the clutch to slip, resulting in a malfunctioning compressor suction cup.
- If there is a noise, the suction cup may not be suctioned.

Suction Pad
Electromagnetic coils are energised to produce a magnetic field, which tightens the suction cup behind the pulley, which in turn is connected to the compressor’s internal rotor via the internal spline, so it can be driven to rotate together internally.
Pulley
When installing, pay attention to the suction cup and pulley should retain a certain clearance, usually for the thickness of a blade, about 0.3mm-0.5mm. If the gap is too small it tends to cause friction throughout and slips easily. If the clearance is too large it won’t absorb and the clutch won’t work.
Solenoid
The air conditioning compressor clutch solenoid is the heart of the air conditioning refrigeration system. The power of the compressor comes from the operation of the engine. When energised, the solenoid coil generates a magnetic field, which provides the power to drive the compressor cylinder piston to rotate.

William Lazo –
Works well and fits perfectly. The only issue was that the outer snap ring was the wrong size for my vehicle. Ended up using the old one. Fortunately, the inner snap ring was the correct size, as I had to destroy the old one while taking it out.Took out one star, as the manufacturer should include the snap rings for all the vehicles it is suppose to cover.
