After unsuccessfully trying to get my new Echo PB-2520 leaf blower to start with starter fluid after not using it for two months, I tore down the carburetor and cleaned it and the fuel hoses the best I could with this Gumout spray. I started pretty conservatively and just cleaned the gaskets and the openings I could see, but after reattaching the carburetor it still wouldn’t start. I finally tore it all the way down (removing the needle, etc.) sprayed it really well, and got it running again. It’s hard to believe the carburetor is that sensitive to sitting for two months (the gas was treated with Stabil) but I guess it might be. I replaced the spark plug at the same time — but that shouldn’t have been the problem since it had maybe 90 min. of use on it. I have two other Echo yard tools (string trimmer, stick edger) that sat the very same time and didn’t have trouble starting either. In any case, the Gumout worked fine. This is a smaller can than your regular “spray paint” sized can. I used the full can on this one job.

Great product, but it seems that everything we buy now is made smaller, maintaining the old prices! Maybe it is a way to trick the inflation charts?

I’ve used this twice now with great success, first on my lawnmower then pressure washer: both would not start after sitting for a while during winter. Normally I start them now and then to keep the fuel from staying in the carb for too long but guess I was late 🙂 It took a few sprays and maybe 20 minutes of soaking/sitting on the lawn mower and maybe an hour on the pressure washer since it has been sitting longer. But both eventually started. Way cheaper than new equipment!
