I used this product to paint the steel rims on my truck. The entire process can be an ordeal, with removing the tire, the cleaning process with degreasing, soap, denatured alcohol, wire brushes, cleaning the buckets & brushes after each rim, laying down the tarp on your driveway/garage, priming, painting, clearcoating & the appropriate drying times inbetween coats…it’s a chore for one wheel, if you want to do a good job and get complete coverage. Every wheel has so many nooks & crannies, flat and curved surfaces…taping the valve stems, using tape or playing cards to avoid getting primer/paint/clear on the tires…front side, back side, rim edges… .I guess what I am trying to say is, you will only want to do this once, so take a little extra time and a few extra $ and use SEP (for steel wheels) to ensure that your paint adheres to the metal. I found that one can will cover two wheels. I applied one tack coat and two full coats to both the front and back of each rim. Please, use outside on a calm day or use some sort of mask/respirator.

great self etching prime. I got good coverage at just carding over a mildly rusted surface. I purchased a case but found I used much less than I’d expected. control of the nozzle is good and it comes out in a flat broad spray that allows you to vary your angle of attack and get the best possible coverage and thickness. I recommend this one.

This paint sprays evenly, dries quickly, adheres superbly and has excellent coverage. I sand blasted a 1956 flatbed and wanted to seal the metal on the bed quickly so the rain didn’t bring out new rust. This worked very well. However two of the six cans in the pack stopped spraying entirely even though each had more than 75% of material left in the can – hence the 4 stars. Each can was shaken according to directions. I’ve never seen this happen with any spray can before.

Works okay. Some of the cans I got seem old. They started shooting little speckles of what looked like particulate. I made sure I shook the can extra long the next time and the problem was still there. I lightly sanded after, which took the little speckles off. They didn’t seem to affect the overall performance, but will cause your finish not to be smooth. Other cans were fine and I had no issues with.

I had four wheels that had varying amounts of oxidation after four winters of salt and snow. Like any paint project the devil is in the details and 90% of the work is preparation. After using 400 grit sandpaper to remove the oxidation as well as wheel finish, I continued to move up in fine grit stages until the wheel surface that was to be painted was smooth. After taping the wheels I used multiple coats of self etching primer followed by multiple coats of of wheel paint (silver) followed by several coats of clear coat for protection. The wheels were then allowed to cure for a week. Very happy with the finish. For these paint products you’ll need to wear a ventilator and paint in a very well ventilated area.

Used this on my original 1971 chevy Z28 for the steel wheels. it’s been a few years and still no peeling. great product. would recommend this for steel. I have tested and it is 100%

It matched fairly close to my existing primer. It seems like a good primer.

Wear proper organic vapor respirator. Repeat wear respirator. OK that out-of-the-way it goes on like water covers really well. I go through about three paint cans to one etching primer. It cures faster with a heat lamp. Don’t use hot air to dry lacquer-based paint it shrinks with hot air; I’ve had fantastic results with heat lamp, or sunlight..
